Hemp candles: Use and instructions for making
Why use hemp candles?
In addition to the oral use of CBD drops, in some cases it makes sense to also use cannabis suppositories for vaginal or rectal use. This makes sense especially when we need stronger doses, as absorption is the highest in this case.
How do hemp candles work?
If we compare oral use and suppositories, the advantage of suppositories is that absorption is better and the effect lasts longer.
When taken orally, the effects are noticeable after 30-90 minutes, because CBD travels through the digestive system for the longest time. With rectal or vaginal application and dosing, the effects are felt after 10-15 minutes and last from 4-8 hours.
Rectal or vaginal absorption of the cannabinoid CBD is somewhere between 50-70%, depending on the organism and dosage.
Using CBD candles
We use CBD suppositories as additional support in relieving local problems such as hemorrhoids, menstrual cramps, and also in intestinal or reproductive diseases and more serious systemic diseases. Oral and rectal administration are usually recommended for more severe diseases (cancer, multiple sclerosis, etc.)
2 g suppositories are intended for adults, and 1 g suppositories for children. Prepared candles should always be stored in a special container in the refrigerator. Before inserting, make sure that the candle has a solid shape, wash your hands, and it is recommended to use disposable gloves.
Relax, lie down on your side and pull your upper leg towards your chest. Insert the suppository at least 5 cm into the vagina or rectum (deeper than the sphincter muscle). We hold the buttocks together so that the candle does not slip out. Rest on your side for at least the next 10-15 minutes, then wash your hands thoroughly.
For vaginal use, insert one CBD suppository with washed hands as deep as possible into the vagina. It is best to lie on your back with your legs slightly bent.
Making CBD suppositories for rectal/vaginal use
How strong the candle will be depends on the dissolved amount of hemp paste in cocoa and shea butter.
How do we prepare candles?
In a clean environment, we prepare all the necessary accessories and ingredients for candles: cocoa butter, shea butter and 50% CBD extract. Ideally, the extract already contains lecithin.
WE NEED:
- 30 or 60 models for suppositories 2g (buy them in specialized stores such as Sanolabor)
- 55 or 110 ml of cocoa and shea butter (in a ratio of 2:1)
- 50% CBD Extract/Paste/Resin
- technique
- 2 containers (larger glass and smaller)
- 95% alcohol
- a container for preparing a water bath (a rice cooker is practical)
- disposable gloves
- paper towels
- medical syringes or better pipettes, which enable easier and more accurate filling of candle molds
PREPARATION:
- We ensure a high standard of hygiene during preparation. We disinfect the candles and everything we use with 95% quality pharmaceutical alcohol (we also disinfect the candle models with alcohol and dry them),
- Weigh out 55 ml or 110 ml of cocoa and shea butter in a ratio of 2:1 and melt in a glass container over a water bath. When the butter has melted and we have mixed it well, add the desired amount of CBD 50% PASTE. 5 milliliters of 50% CBD CBDex® paste contains 2500 mg of CBD and a wide range of other cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids as well as sunflower lecithin.
Add the desired amount of CBD 50% paste to the melted butter. If we want 60 candles with 100 mg of CBD, we need 3 x 50% CBD paste or 2 x 30% FORTE CBD drops (lower concentration than 30% is not suitable for making candles). With 30% drops, in this case, the mg of CBD works out for us according to our wishes. If we use 50% CBD paste, we need three 5 ml packages, that means 3x2500mg CBD, a total of 7500mg CBD. Of this, we use two 5 ml 50% pastes in their entirety and add another 2 ml from the third 5 ml paste, save the rest and later consume it orally, but we can also make an ointment and also drops (we have 3 ml of 50% paste left, that means 1500mg of CBD ). Drops are much more suitable for oral consumption, they do not irritate the gastric mucosa and it is much easier to adjust the dosage.
We leave the ingredients in the glass container, which already contains the butters and CBD extract, over the water bath. With occasional stirring, we wait for the CBD paste to dissolve in the butter, which takes between 15 and 20 minutes.
- if the paste does not contain sunflower lecithin, add ½ teaspoon of it, as it ensures better absorption, lecithin is already added to the 50% Premium CBDex paste and does not need to be added,
- for stability, clamp the models or candle molds well on a special stand or place them in a container of a suitable size, with the openings facing upwards, so that the liquid mixture does not leak out of the molds before the mixture hardens,
- draw the mixture of butter and CBD paste into a medical syringe or pipette and carefully fill the candle molds with it
- first leave the filled candle molds with the stand at room temperature for a few hours to allow the mixture to cool down slowly, then place them in the refrigerator to harden the oil mixture. When the suppositories harden, it is a good idea to protect them on the upper side with medical adhesive tape. The candles are thus ready for use. We keep them in the refrigerator in a special container.
- before use, cut one suppository with scissors and prepare it for application.
Additional tips for hemp candles
Preparing the water bath: Melt or we heat delicate dishes or products without boiling, congealing or burning. For a water bath, heat enough water (the water must not boil) so that a small container can be placed in it without touching the hot bottom and so that the water does not seep from the larger container into the smaller one).
Candles melt quickly, so insert them as quickly as possible after taking them out of the refrigerator. We can also help with an applicator/insert. Try to insert the candles as deep as possible.
In case of more serious illnesses, it is recommended to use at least one 100mg CBD suppository per day, in the evening before going to bed. In addition, oral consumption of 30% CBD FORTE drops, anointing with CBD cream on the problem site and also inhalation are recommended.
Consultation with a professional is recommended.
Monitor how you feel.
We suggest keeping a diary.
Store the candles in the refrigerator.
